Since the launch of this website in April
2006 there has been a steady number of e-mails from relatives of crew
members and, indeed, former members of the crews of the Halcyons themselves. Details have
been included here of those contacts relating to HMS Niger, although e-mail addresses are excluded for privacy
and to avoid spam messages.
Please

Thank
you for producing a most comprehensive site reference Niger. My uncle

Ernest Attwell |
Barbara Carlyon nee Attwell |

Ernest Attwell was my
Fathers younger brother. They never knew each other as my dad was
sent to Australia as an orphan. I have found Ernest's younger
brother and sister who are still alive through doing family history.
I travelled from Western Australia to meet them and to tell them of
my Father. It is so wonderful to see my Uncle and all the other s
being remembered in this way. I just wanted to say thank you and to
tell you how much our family appreciate the work you are doing.

Reginald Rudd |
Michele Sheppard |
Niece |
I am the niece of Reginald Addison
Rudd. I don't really know much about him apart from the fact that
he lived and died before I was born. My mother June spoke fondly of
her older brother, she was very proud of him. He left behind 6
siblings and his parents when he died in 1942 as well as a fiancé I
believe.
I have attached a photograph of him;
I am sure I also have some details somewhere with a photograph album
of pictures from his training days and including the training ships
he was on.

Thomas Johnston |
Peter Johnston |
Son |
I have after many years of ignorance
discovered this website and have been able to establish how my
father died. My father being Lieutenant TB Johnston who was on HMS
Niger when she went down off Iceland in 1942.
The various lists of the crew and the
missing, on the website, fail to bring up two names which were given
by, I believe, the Admiralty to my Grandfather when he was in
correspondence with them shortly after the sinking. He was given the
names of Lieutenant P Wishaw RANVR and Sub Lieutenant OL Work RNR.
The letter states that these two survived the sinking. Forgive me if
I have missed something and that these two are noted somewhere.
