Standing Orders 

RESCUE OF SURVIVORS 

  1. Survivors may be suffering from Wounds, Shock, Burns, Frostbite, Immersion Foot, Exhaustion, Fractures etc., etc….. So don’t expect them to climb inboard . Go down to them and help them aboard.
  2. Once aboard, unless they are fairly fit, lay them on the deck. The First Aid parties will collect them or direct you further when the M.O. has seen them.
  3. Uninjured, fairly fit men. No-one is allowed on the messdecks until dry (see ‘Survivor Stations’ order – arrangements for dry clothing, blankets etc.). Once in dry clothing or wrapped in blankets they need REST, WARMTH, HOT DRINKS, HOT LIGHT MEALS. No spirits or cigarettes until you are told it is safe to give them.

Medical Parties 

  1. Close up to action stations. WR and SB prepared as for action.
  2. Muster stretchers both ends of ship.
  3. Assist in bringing of stretcher cases from boats. Direct use of  NR stretchers.
  4. Move cases to wardroom under direction of MO.
  5. Direct walking and assisted cases to cabins and cabin flat.
  6. Return to wardroom and cabins.
