The 7th June was the occasion of the Memorial service at Sea. The
cortège was led from the Mersey, over the 38 miles that Thetis had
covered on her last voyage, by the minesweeper HMS Hebe. Most of the
relatives and those intimately concerned with the lost submarine were
standing on the open deck. before she reached the last resting place
of Thetis, Hebe had been joined by a congregation of salvage vessels,
lifeboats and miscellaneous light craft.
